I made a song in every program on the internet
Which DAW do you use?
That is, which software is your choice amongst the vast ocean of seemingly endless opinions on features, community or even ‘sound.’
Don’t get me wrong, this is important to consider. But not at the expense of yourself actually making music.
So what better way to solve this question once and for all than to strap on the swimming cap and swim the length of said ocean yourself?
This is exactly what I did.
The results honestly shocked me too.
Here are my final answers:
(I’m an Ableton Live user)
For electronic music: Bitwig Studio
For vintage style sounds & creativity: Reason Studio
Best free DAW: Luna (Universal Audio)
Best for Sound Design: Metasynth
Something different: Renoise
Most bizzare award goes to: LMMS (a random open source 2004 software)
Some other thoughts
I still love Ableton Live and wont be going anywhere soon, for me it still takes the cake for best online community and workflow intuition.
Logic Pro is popular for good reason, its probably the best value for money and is a great DAW for all round feature support, electronic and band oriented.
To be honest ALL of the major DAWs have their place.
But remember … it really isn’t the DAW which is going to make the music for you. Finding one that you simply ‘enjoy using’ is more important that having all the features in the world.
